EPISODE #008

JOSH LINKNER

CREATING BIG LITTLE BREAKTHROUGHS

“Creativity is our innate state as a human being.”

Many times when we think of creativity and innovation companies like Tesla, Apple and Snap come to mind. The truth is that it’s the small, consistent breakthroughs delivered over the course of time that add up to the “overnight success”. The challenge is that our inner-critic, harsh self-judgement and social media comparison shut down the creative channels in our brains. But, in our world of constant change and disruption these small creative acts are needed more than ever. In fact, LinkedIn research ranked creativity as the #1 soft skill of 2020.

So how do we unlock this innate skill?

By focusing on Big Little Breakthroughs.big little breakthroughs josh linkner

On this week’s episode, we’re joined by Creative Troublemaker, Josh Linkner.

He passionately believes that all human beings have incredible creative capacity, and he’s on a mission to unlock inventive thinking and creative problem solving to help leaders, individuals, and communities soar.

“The pressure to generate big ideas can be overwhelming. We know that bold innovations are critical in these disruptive and competitive times, but when it comes to breakthrough thinking we often freeze up.” – Josh Linkner

He has been the founder and CEO of five tech companies, which sold for a combined value of over $200 million and is the author of four books including the New York Times Bestsellers, Disciplined Dreaming and The Road to Reinvention. He has invested in and/or mentored over 100 startups and is the Founding Partner of Detroit Venture Partners.

Today, Josh serves as Chairman and co-founder of Platypus Labs, an innovation research, training, and consulting firm. He has twice been named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and is the recipient of the United States Presidential Champion of Change Award.

Josh is also a passionate Detroiter, the father of four, is a professional-level jazz guitarist, and has a slightly odd obsession for greasy pizza. His upcoming book, Big Little Breakthroughs will hit the shelves April 20th.

We talk about why every human being can be creative, why creativity is mission-critical as we move through COVID, and why we need to tap into creativity as we redefine how we work, how we live, and how we play.
