EPISODE #013

RICHARD CURTIS

LESSONS ON CREATIVE HIGH-PERFORMANCE AND LEADERSHIP

“Don’t focus on being more creative. Focus on removing the blocks to creativity like censorship and judgement.”

Back in March of 2020 when the world shut down we all were given back something that a lot of us covet — our time. Some used it to dive into projects they’d been putting off, others gave it to their families, and some used it to serve others.

Rich Curtis, CEO of FutureBrand Australia, a global brand transformation company, decided to do a little of all three. With a total commute time of 3 hours each day, Rich decided to give 90 minutes back to his family and use the first 90 minutes of his day to serve others. It was here that a Thirty:3 was born — a social initiative for good, providing brand and marketing advice to people who need it – whatever your business or industry. A friend of mine shared Rich’s initial post about this on LinkedIn. An offer to have a 30-minute chat and get advice on my brand with someone as experienced as Rich? How could I say no?

While there of course has been incredible loss, trauma and hardship with COVID-19 there has also been some good. As is the world of duality. This is some of the good. A friendship that was born out of his humbleness and service, and my own curiosity to grow. A few months ago I was able to speak to some of his Thirty:3 group and FutureBranders from across the world on resilient performance.

And, today, he’s the guest on The MindShift Lab. It’s not often you’re able to sit down with someone who’s worked with some of the most iconic brands on the planet and facilitate the creative direction of award-winning work. Regardless of your industry or position, this conversation will help you grow.

On this episode, Rich shares with us the power of being in the trenches with your people as a leader, why it’s crucial to model the behaviors you expect of those you lead, how to remove the barriers to creativity and why you need to set up your environment to be at your most creative, productive self. If you enjoy talking about leadership and creative high-performance you’re going to love this episode.
