About the author

In a world of disruption, change and adversity Mike Lee helps individual contributors, leaders and organizations activate the purpose-driven, future-focused and heart-centered skills to meet the moment and prepare for what's next.

Even though 2024 included incredible events in epic locations like Banff, Alaska, and the Bahamas, reaching thousands of people, if I’m being honest—it was a letdown in many ways.

Business relationships with high expectations ended, I bottle-necked my own projects due to fear, and stagnation was a lot more prevalent than I’m comfortable with.

But, I had to practice what I preach. Build the vision. Lock in on the process. Surrender the outcomes.

And, trust, that as one of my all-time favorite artists says, “Transformation is happening before it’s visible.”

Here are 20 things I learned on leadership and life in 2024.

  1. In a world constantly challenging you to get to the next level I’ve realized that the ultimate next level is inner peace.
  2. In a world where we’re conditioned to believe we need to control everything to feel safe let surrender triumph over fear.
  3. Trust is a better antidote to stress than gratitude.
  4. Great experiences are enhanced when you’re in the presence of people you love.
  5. Vulnerability is the gateway to human connection.
  6. The external environment has a massive influence on your internal state.
  7. Psychological safety is THE foundational element of creativity and innovation.
  8. Anxiety, depression, and stress cannot exist in deep states of presence.
  9. When you judge yourself you’re abandoning yourself.
  10. Allowing yourself to receive is a gift within itself.
  11. Mental health is a multi-faceted physiological process — not a cognitive one.
  12. Create what you want to receive.
  13. Don’t resist the breakdown. Let it happen so you can begin again.
  14. Diversity of people, places, and experiences opens your mind to what’s possible.
  15. In our do-more-with-less, hustle-and-grind culture, rest is a required act of rebellion.
  16. It’s not about the hours you grind. It’s about the depth of presence you bring to those hours.
  17. Your ego will tell you, “Accomplish more and you’ll find your self-worth.” Your essence says, “You have infinite value as it already exists within.”
  18. Just because you learned something 15 years ago does not mean it is of no value for someone in the present moment.
  19. Operate with a beginner’s mind. Learn to leverage AI instead of fear it.
  20. You’re doing the best you can do. If you could do better you would have.
