I stumbled on Breathwork when going through the heroin-like withdrawal symptoms of an anti-depressant medication I was on and it helped me through a time in my life of massive adversity.
Breathwork is a form of conscious breathing done in and out of your mouth, which is significantly different than something you might have done in a yoga class. The in breath and the out breath link together to form one continuous pattern for 25-30 minutes.
- In through your mouth
- Into your stomach
- Into your chest
- And then exhale through your mouth.
This is the best practice I know of to bring us back into the present moment, which is the only place innovation, creativity and possibilities exist. Now more than ever we have to learn to place our attention and energy into the present moment to solve the complex, critical challenges we are facing. We are living in unprecedented, uncertain times and need to show up for ourselves if we want to show up for others — whether that’s our families, careers or relationships. This starts with setting yourself up to be in the best emotional state, ready to attack the challenges in our lives.
